Roman Abramovich, owner of Chelsea F.C., selects FieldTurf Duraspine for the Stade de St. Jean soccer field.
(April 16, 2010) – The people of St. Barthelémy will be celebrating their newest, state-of-the-art facility at Stade de St. Jean, as the inauguration of the new FieldTurf surface will officially take place this evening at 7 P.M.
The upgrade to the field and running track, which used to consist mostly of earth, mud, and rock, was long overdue and was made possible by Chelsea F.C. owner Roman Abramovich. Mr. Abramovich, an active investor in St. Barts, generously purchased the field for the people of this French West Indies island.
Now, Stade de St. Jean boasts a breathtaking field and a modern Beynon running track, which will offer the residents of St. Barts a safe, clean, and beautiful environment to practice their favorite sports.
Discussions about the project were first initiated in June 2009 when Mr. Abramovich and his staff approached FieldTurf with a straightforward goal: to have a world class sports facility for the entire community of St Barts to use and enjoy.
These discussions have now materialized into the construction of a sports facility which is the crown jewel of the Caribbean.
Today’s festivities for the inauguration of the field will consist of several soccer games among schools within the area, followed by an opening ceremony, and a soccer match between veteran players to close out the night.
