The University of Virginia athletics department established a specific goal in 2002 to build and maintain the finest facilities in the country for the purpose of attracting and developing the best student-athletes in the country,” Oliver said. “The installation of FieldTurf on our football practice fields as well as our lacrosse practice field puts us one step closer to achieving this goal. I have a great deal of familiarity with the surface (FieldTurf) having installed it at Washington State in 1999 and I'm excited that our student-athletes at Virginia will now have the opportunity to practice on this revolutionary surface.— Jon Oliver University of Virginia Athletic Director
It's been a real bonus," men's lacrosse coach Dom Starsia said of the new artificial surface on his practice field. "We practiced in all the rain last week, and we didn't miss anything. We would have been a mess without it.— Dom Starsia Men's Lacrosse Coach, University of Virginia
We are very fortunate at Virginia to have some of the best soccer fields for training and games anywhere. Not only do we have excellent bermuda grass fields, but the recent addition of three FieldTurf fields gives us tremendous options in terms of year-round training no matter what the weather. The FieldTurf fields play very similar to grass so we do not have to compromise any aspect of our training.— Steve Swanson Head Women's Soccer Coach, University of Virginia
