Saint Xavier University achieves success on FieldTurf
“This is the Rolls Royce of game fields” – Mike Feminis, head football coach
CHICAGO, IL – A championship program playing on a championship caliber field…the ingredients for an amazing football story! It’s the story of Saint Xavier University, a proud institution that values itself on its academics as well as its athletics. In 2011, the hard work and dedication put forth by the football program was rewarded with a NAIA championship. The Cougars defeated Carroll College 24-20 in the final game, bringing home the first ever NAIA title to Saint Xavier University and ultimately putting SXU on the map for collegiate athletics in America. Part of that success stems from a decision made back in 2005, when the school elected to install FieldTurf at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field. Choosing FieldTurf set the standard of excellence the program was looking for, and 5 years later that excellence translated into a championship.
“Our players love it, but it’s also been a huge asset to all of our students at SXU including our soccer teams and those who participate in intramurals”, said Head Football Coach Mike Feminis. “The University has also benefited by allowing outside groups to come in and rent the facility which wasn’t always possible when we had a grass surface.”
Hand in hand with the installation of FieldTurf, coach Feminis has helped transform Saint Xavier football into a model program. Since his arrival, SXU owns a 33-6 record versus Chicago area rivals – many of these victories occurring at home on FieldTurf. With strong coaching and a surface that brings the best out of its teams that play on it, one can see the winning combination that can be made. FieldTurf is proud of its offering and the impact it’s had on Saint Xavier’s recent success.
What FieldTurf offers is the industry’s most innovative and state-of-the-art product. Specially sized cryogenic rubber particles and washed silica sand granules are layered, in a patented installation process surrounding the FieldTurf fibers. This provides ideal player safety and outstanding durability and longevity. The FieldTurf system is the only turf product in the world with independent long-term and real-life safety data backing up its claims.
“The installation at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field is one of the finest in the state of Illinois, and one that represents the true value offering we provide”, said FieldTurf representative Jonathan Huard. “Saint Xavier University’s entire athletic department has benefited from the installation of our turf, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results translated from all its student body playing on our surface!”
The Cougars look to continue this success into the future, and are part of an impressive list of schools that also play on FieldTurf. That list includes top Division-I NCAA programs such as Illinois, Illinois State, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, West Virginia, Nebraska, Washington, Missouri, Texas, Texas Tech, Iowa, Rutgers, Syracuse, Cincinnati and Louisville.
