JELD-WEN Field’s FieldTurf Achieves FIFA 2-Star Certification for the Second Consecutive Year
One year after the initial certification, Portland’s JELD-WEN is one of only four fields in the United States to have been re-tested and pass FIFA 2-Star testing
PORTLAND, OR (March 28, 2012) – JELD-WEN Field’s FieldTurf surface has now earned FIFA 2-Star recommended status – for the second consecutive year. One year after the initial installation and certification, JELD-WEN is one of only four fields in the United States to have been re-tested and pass FIFA 2-Star testing.
Home to Major League Soccer's Portland Timbers, JELD-WEN Field’s FieldTurf surface was installed in March 2011. This field has been designed specifically to mirror elite levels of playing characteristics for soccer. The FieldTurf system has gained recognition within the global soccer community for providing ideal levels of energy restitution, grass-like ball performance, and proper shock absorption.
The FIFA Recommended 2-Star designation is the highest synthetic turf rating from FIFA and is issued after a battery of tests are performed by a FIFA approved testing agent. FIFA final round competitions and top UEFA competitions have the FIFA Recommended 2-Star in their respective competition regulations.
“We continue to have what I believe to be the single-best artificial surface for pro soccer in the United States,” said Merritt Paulson, President of the Timbers.
“We are happy that JELD-WEN Field has received a FIFA 2-Star rating for the second consecutive year as it validates the level of quality and attention that goes into producing our fields,” said FieldTurf President Eric Daliere. “We also wish the Timbers and their fans the very best for what looks to be a promising 2012 season."
In addition to being the home of the Portland Timbers (MLS), the Portland State Vikings football team also calls JELD-WEN Field home. The venue also hosts a variety of sporting and non-sporting events, including various league playoffs and championships.
FieldTurf was the very first artificial surface to attain FIFA Recommended status due to its superior grass-like performance, which soccer players prefer. FieldTurf was the 1st artificial pitch to host a UEFA Cup Qualifying Round (Torpedo, Moscow); and the 1st to host a FIFA Soccer Tournament (Jeux de la Francophonie).
