New Home for Crusaders After Decades of Off-Campus Games

Come fall, it will mark the first time in over five decades that the Althoff Catholic High School Crusaders will compete on home terrain. The school recently announced the installation of a new FieldTurf surface, the first in school history.

In years past, the Crusaders were required to play all their “Home” football games at nearby high school or collegiate facilities.

Althoff’s Principal, Dave Harris, said choosing FieldTurf as the centerpiece of their new home field was an easy choice based on the company’s reputation and the safety of its systems.

“What we really liked about FieldTurf is that, one, they are in a lot of the major colleges so the reputation they have and the people who have purchased their product are well-known,” Harris said. “Second, it has an outstanding rating for concussions and great rating for knee and ankle injuries. We wanted to put something out there that was the safest and best turf for our student-athletes.”

“As a small Catholic school,” Harris said, “Althoff had to raise the money needed for their new field. Was it worth all the effort? Definitely. The school’s football players are excited about just being able to walk out to their own backyard to play a home game.”

The Althoff Crusaders’ football and soccer programs will be competing and practicing on Classic HD, one of FieldTurf’s top offerings due to the systems all-around performance and industry-leading slit-film fiber design.

Classic HD uses slit-film yarn that strikes the perfect balance between durability and feel.

Every Classic HD fiber features a thick design and precision cut pattern that make it an industry leader in reducing “splash,” which is what happens when granules from the infill system splashes up upon impact.

FieldTurf representatives say the field has earned the nickname “Beauty and the Beast” because it personifies strength while maintaining a beautiful, soft-to-the-touch appearance.

Classic HD is the same system installed at high profile venues such as Ford Field, Home of the Detroit Lions, Ohio State University, Syracuse University and over 500 esteemed NCAA and elite high school facilities across North America and around the world.
